INSPIRATIONAL SOURCE

As we reconnect with old friends and meet new people, we explore how we are shaped through these encounters. We will reflect on past and present relationships: Do we still connect, and if so, how? What do these connections mean and make possible? What do old friendships represent, and what do new ones bring?

The focus is on the here and now—being together as a group, deepening bodily awareness, attending to feelings, and co-creating unexpected dances. We will write, re-write, and move together—as if we have done this for a long time, and as if it were the very first time.

Remembering you. For anyone who feels like reading something personal. It fits to the theme of this year.

This year’s idea came about while watching the epic videos of El Pulso de la Memoria with Manuel. These videos brought back memories, excitement, a touch of nostalgia, and the impulse to re-invite you all to come—both those of you who came before and those who want to drop by and discover our work. So I’m using this inner motivation to create a theme that we can explore together through dance, the body, and music.

Truth be told, I started this habit of running intensive workshops in December back in 2005 with a month-long Christmas Marathon held at the Colegio Público Nuestra Señora de la Fuensanta, since my brother was teaching there and I lived right opposite with housemates at the time. Later I continued at Fá, a fantastic cultural center that existed for a few years in the center of Murcia. María and Manuel  were already coming along back then, and they have kept joining us for many years. Then I imagine there was some kind of break because I was traveling and working in the US, Hamburg, and Guayaquil for a while.

But in any case, the energy in these workshops was so amazing that I was inspired to invite other teachers I really wanted to dance and share with, and so we started „inesperadamente“… and that’s how we’ve kept going, every year with a different theme, sometimes in summer too, in such cool places as Centro Párraga, El Quirófano, Konvent, Sub Up, etc. These are some of the participating teachers who come to mind, but I’m sure I’m missing someone; please remind me: Marisa Brugarolas, Markus Hoft, Scott Davis, Isabelle Kirouac, Mirva Mäkinen, Bernd Knappe, Isabel Lavella, Wieland Möller, Raúl Frutos, Sebas Gómez, Stefanie Alf, Antonio Alemanno, Biliana Voutchkova, etc.

Ingo Reulecke has been a constant since 2011; not only in these workshops, but in my personal and professional life, performing in the most peculiar or normal of places. As far as I can remember, he only missed the intensive once, when he went to India. Selu Herráiz has also been a vital constant with whom we collaborated for at least six years, and here we are still going…

Well, so many dancers and musicians have passed through these courses and festivals! People who have come or keep coming untiringly to our gatherings. And we’ve been supported by key cultural spaces and their teams, including Centro Párraga, El Quirófano, Sub Up, Konvent, and others.

There are also some absolutely killer videos from both Selu Herráiz and Paulina Laskowski.

And if you feel like it, write to me and refresh my memory!

SPACES

We’re lucky to be able to dance at Centro Párraga and Sub Up. The Body Preparation classes in the mornings take place indoors. Both spaces have suitable rooms for this purpose. During the Dance Improvisation sessions/classes, we will work mainly outdoors in site-specific locations such as coves, the mountains, villages, and the city. In case of being tired or bad weather, we will use indoor spaces instead.

LODGING

First part of the workshop in Murcia (27 – 30December)

In this part of the course, everyone arranges their own accommodation, although you can check out La Casa Verde. Here, you can stay in a shared room with other people. There are several options. You have a kitchen to cook in, and it is about a 15-minute walk from Centro Párraga. You can also connect with other participants in the dance course and share a room with them.

There are also other affordable hotels in the area. Murcia is not very large, and Centro Párraga is easily reachable on foot. Do not wait too long to organize it.

Meals: Near Centro Párraga, there are bars where you can have breakfast and lunch well and economically. We often have breakfast together at 10:30 AM. However, you can obviously also bring a lunchbox with your food. Whatever you prefer.

Days off in Cabo de Palos (December 31st – January 1st)

We propose spending these two nights in Cabo de Palos, as it is a fairly quiet coastal town. This way, we can also start on January 2nd already being there. If you are going to do the second part of the course, we invite you to book at Sup Up from December 31st to January 5th. Most likely, not all course participants or teachers will be there on those days, since they are days off. During those days, there is a lot of activity at the hostel, making it a great place to spend New Year’s Eve. Cabo de Palos offers both mountains and the sea, so you have plenty of activities to do—and if you dare, you can even go diving.

These two days are neither organized nor coordinated by us; they are arranged spontaneously among the participants. We welcome your initiatives.

Second part of the workshop in Cabo de Palos (January 2 – 5)

The idea is for us to stay at Sub-Up Hostel so we can spend more time together during the stay. They offer an affordable price for our dance group. It is a tastefully decorated hostel and an ideal place to hold this gathering. It has a kitchen and a space to dance. However, you can also arrange accommodation on your own.

Make your reservation directly at this email address: reservas@subuphostel.com

Prices:
Double or single room, January 2 to January 5 (3 nights): €180.00
Double or single room (if you decide to stay there for New Year’s Eve), December 31 to January 5 (5 nights): €300.00

This means that a room for two people, with its own toilet and shower, costs €30 per night per person. A single room with its own toilet and shower costs €60 per night.

If you need a shared room and are looking for someone to share it with, you can ask us, and we will be happy to try to help you find a compatible person. However, please keep in mind that we cannot guarantee, nor is it our responsibility, that we will find someone to share with you. You are responsible for your own accommodation. Thank you for understanding.

There is also the option of shared dormitory rooms for groups, although organizing them is somewhat more complicated. For this reason, over the last few years, we have mainly worked with double rooms.

Meals: Since there is a kitchen and a lounge at Sub-Up, we usually organize ourselves to buy groceries, have breakfast, and have dinner together. Two people cook each time. But there are days when we go out for dinner. None of this is mandatory; you can do whatever works best for you.

TRANSPORTATION

WHICH AIRPORT IS THE CLOSEST TO OUR WORKSHOP

The closest airport to Murcia and Cabo de Palos is Alicante (Altet). There are regular buses from this airport to Murcia City, and from there to Cabo de Palos, but not late at night. Please check the bus schedule before buying your plane ticket.
We advice you to book your plane, train, or bus ticket as soon as possible. Prices rise very quickly, and at the moment you can still get very good deals.
There is also an airport in Corvera, Murcia, but the prices and connections are usually not convenient. If you have better information, please let me know.

OTHER OPTIONS

– You can also take a bus from Cartagena to Cabo de Palos. There are buses ever half an hour and it takes one hour.
– There are trains and buses from Alicante City to Murcia and Cartagena.
– Shuttle: If you arrive late in the evening to the airport, and we need to organice a pick up. It is better if you come in groups and tell us a lot in advance. If this is the case please plan quite more money for it.

CONNECTING FOR TRAVEL AND LODGING

We will make an email group for the people that want to connect to travel together and/or sharing a room at the hostel. If it interest you, please register for this option at the registration sheet above.

PACKING LIST

Bring an appropriated yoga mat with a good grip. We will do intensive Body Preparation every day.

Clothes: We will be working outside a lot. Please bring appropriated shoes (running shoes work the best for me) and comfortable warm clothes (layers work the best). Choose clothes which not only feel comfortable, but that you are comfortable being seen in. When we are moving outside, the performative aspect is automatically there. For the kind of work that we do, I recommend discrete, simple, but nice clothes.

BRIEF REMARKS

Maximum number or participants is 20.

– It is possible to only take part in the morning Body Preparation Classes. They are open to everyone, but registration is required.

– Please keep in mind that small changes to the schedule and given information are possible.

– For this intensive workshop, you need to have a minimum of two years of movement or artistic experience: dance, theater, yoga, aikido or something similar.

Trinidad Martínez (Dance and organisation)

Since 2023, Trinidad Martínez has directed and performed with the ensemble „CROWD – Echtzeit Komposition“. The ensemble has performed at events such as the Blurred Edges Festival, Altonale, Jenfeld 48, and as part of the Kulturfunke program. In 2025, „CROWD“ received funding from the Hamburg Ministry of Culture and Media (Intercultural Projects), diffusion support from the DFDK, and the Wandsbek District Office. Thanks to this support, the ensemble was able to go on tour and perform in various locations. Previous performances have shown how valuable it is to reach people who otherwise have limited access to art—whether due to financial, social, or everyday barriers. CROWD creates encounters that touch the daily lives of audiences and open up new perspectives.

In addition to CROWD, Martínez has directed the project „tanz wo du bist!“ since 2015, which consists of four sub-projects and is funded by the Eimsbüttel District Office as well as the FREIRÄUME! initiative for cultural integration projects. Here, she brings both her experience in the social sector and her artistic practice to bear—working with women and children as well as continuously developing the project.

She received her training at the Centre de Danse International Rosella Hightower in Cannes, France. In 2007, she traveled to the USA on a Fulbright scholarship to deepen her knowledge of dance improvisation. The following year, she worked with Seattle-based companies Degenerate Art Ensemble and Pat Graney Dance Company. During her time in the US, she participated in the „Keeping the Faith Project“ with the Pat Graney Company, which was conceived by professionals and performed by incarcerated women in a women’s correctional facility. In 2011, she received a Goethe-Institut grant for a teaching residency at ‚La Fábrica‘, a dance school in Guayaquil. From 2018 to 2020, Trinidad Martínez taught movement, performance, and improvisation courses at HFBK Hamburg (University of Fine Arts Hamburg).
From 2012 to 2018, she worked on a freelance basis at the ASP-Wegenkamp social center.

From 2011 to 2026, she led intensive workshops in dance improvisation in Spain, collaborating with Ingo Reulecke, Selu Herraiz, Chad Popple, Stefanie Alf, and Wieland Möller, among others.

Together with Katharina Oberlik and Ingo Reulecke, she founded the „PONYHOF – Kollektiv für unkonventionellen Tanz“. She also regularly collaborates on dance projects led by Katharina Oberlik, Antje Pfundtner, Yolanda Gutiérrez, and Fernanda Ortiz.

From 2003 to 2007, Martínez was part of the artists‘ collective „La Fragua“ in Murcia, where they opened an independent arts space in the central railway station. The space regularly hosted experimental music and dance sessions.

She has practiced Aikido for over 20 years (3rd Dan) and regularly practices yoga and meditation. In recent years, she has focused intensively on dance improvisation as a performative art form.
